Kearney, Neb. — Preliminary investigation indicates a fire that destroyed a Kearney house was accidental and may have been caused by an electrical issue.

Kearney Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) was dispatched Thursday evening to 290 Yanney Avenue, located south of Interstate 80 near the Platte River.

While enroute, dispatch advised that the house was nearly fully engulfed and there were no occupants in the structure.

Upon arrival, KVFD established a command and began a fire attack. A water shuttle operation was established for water supply. The fire was brought under control shortly after 8:00 p.m.

The State Fire Marshal was requested to assist with the fire origin and cause investigation. The cause remains under investigation, but the early conclusion is that the fire was accidental and was caused by an electrical event in the area of the living room on the first floor of the home.

The home is a total loss.

Other agencies assisting at the scene were Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, CHI Good Samaritan EMS, NPPD, & Black Hills Energy. No injuries were reported.
