KEARNEY — Firefighters with the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department responded to a hay pile fire on a property northeast of Riverdale during the early afternoon hours of Monday, April 13.

Around 1:15 p.m. the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) was dispatched to the 15000 block of YDC Road for the report of a hay pile fire. Good Samaritan EMS also responded to the scene.

KVFD responded with several pieces of equipment, others were able to return to station after the initial response.

On scene, firefighters were working on breaking up the pile and soaking different sections that were still smoldering.

The fire was determined to be under control around 2 p.m.
