KEARNEY — The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) was dispatched to a structure fire at 2900 Grand Avenue #72 (East Lawn Mobile Home Park) on Monday, July 22 at 3:20 p.m.
Dispatch advised there was a report of smoke and flames coming from a bedroom and residents were evacuating.
Upon arrival, KVFD crews reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. Command verified that all occupants were out of the structure. KVFD crews made entry into the residence and performed fire attack and a primary search.
The fire was brought under control quickly. The State Fire Marshal was requested to assist with the origin and cause investigation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist the 5 occupants of the residence. There were no injuries reported.
KVFD responded with 24 Firefighters, 3 Engines, 2 Tankers and a rehab unit. KVFD was assisted on scene by the Kearney Police Department, Good Samaritan EMS, Northwestern Energy, and NPPD.
KVFD wants to remind residents to ensure that they have working smoke detectors in their homes. The detectors should be tested monthly and have batteries replaced annually. Working smoke detectors can mean the difference between life or death. Working smoke detectors save lives.
