Kearney Volunteer Fire Department has proudly served the City of Kearney and the Suburban Fire Protection District #1 of Buffalo and Kearney Counties since 1883. The dedication of our volunteer firefighters enables us to respond to emergency situations with a greater number of well-trained men and women at any time of day or night. In addition to fire protection, KVFD performs rescue, HazMat, Dive, Airport Rescue and Firefighting, Color Guard, and Fire Prevention. All of this is performed by more than 60 volunteers and 13 paid staff, making KVFD the largest volunteer department in the state.
Kearney is the largest volunteer fire department in the state of Nebraska, we provide fire protection and rescue service to an area of 272 square miles with a population of nearly 40,000 people.
In 2004 the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department received an ISO Rating of Two.
