KEARNEY — The Kearney Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) was dispatched to a structure fire at the City of Kearney Utilities Warehouse located at 1202 East 26th Street.

While enroute, dispatch advised that there was a piece of equipment that was on fire inside the building and possible spreading to the structure. Upon arrival, KVFD crews found smoke coming from the rear of the building. KVFD crews made entry and found a skid loader on fire. The fire was extinguished, and crews checked the structure for extension of the fire.

The fire was confined to the skid loader and did not extend to the structure. The State Fire Marshal was contacted to assist with the origin and cause investigation. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical short in the engine compartment of the skid steer. Other agencies involved were Kearney Police Department and CHI Good Samaritan EMS.

No disruption of water services are expected for citizens as a result of this fire.
