KEARNEY — In recognition of Fire Prevention Month, the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department is bringing smiles and safety awareness to Kearney Public Schools. Firefighters will be visiting local elementary schools to greet students with High Fives as part of a special initiative to promote fire safety awareness.

KEARNEY — An unattended candle is thought to be the cause of a fire that occurred at the Centennial Park Apartments during the morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 16. At 8:19 a.m., the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to 1000 4th Avenue for the report of smoke coming from an apartment building.
KEARNEY — 2023 was another busy year for the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department, they recently released last year’s statistics. The KVFD responded to 459 fire calls, 197 rescue calls, 107 non-emergency responses and their members recorded 6,049 hours of training.
KEARNEY — Smoke and flames caused heavy damage and killed a dog Thursday in a mobile home fire at East Lawn Mobile Home Park. The State Fire Marshal determined an unattended candle was the cause of the blaze.
