SUMMARY:Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
DESCRIPTION:Martin Luther King Jr. Day, celebrated on the third Monday of January each year, honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a key leader in the American Civil Rights Movement. The holiday, established to commemorate King’s commitment to nonviolent activism, social justice, and equality, is a time to reflect on his contributions to the fight against racial segregation and discrimination.\nDr. King is best remembered for his famous “I Have a Dream” speech delivered during the 1963 March on Washington, where he called for an end to racism and for civil and economic rights. His tireless work, which included peaceful protests, powerful speeches, and organizing campaigns, helped lead to landmark legislation such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.\nMartin Luther King Jr. Day is also recognized as a national day of service, where individuals and communities come together to volunteer and give back in honor of King’s dedication to helping others. Whether through community projects, educational programs, or moments of reflection, this day serves as a reminder of the importance of equality, unity, and justice for all.\n
